Howden Equestrian Centre is a BHS highly commended horse riding school, located just outside the town of Howden on the A614 leading towards Holme Upon Spalding moor.

HEC is fully insured and licenced with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (Number AA3243511) and all our staff are BHS qualified.

We pride ourselves on being different from your average riding school, we do not do large "ride to the rear of the ride" groups. We prefer to do more private / small group lessons, concentrating on rider development with the view to creating well rounded riders. All our staff are experienced, qualified professionals and we are incredibly passionate about animal welfare and education.

Our yard has passed strict yearly assessments by the British Horse Society, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which covers all areas in the inspection including assessing the standard of lessons, horse welfare, tack checks, facilities, risk assessments, safeguarding etc. This is a gold standard to look for when looking for a suitable riding establishment.

We have consistently been awarded the BHS highly commended approvals award across the board, along with being awarded 5 STARS by the ERYC. Both of these are the highest awards available.

Collectively we have well over 80+ years of experience in the training of horse and rider, and have previously trained riders of all ages in several other local riding schools before opening HEC in 2015.
Our chief instructor is qualified as a BHS Level 4 senior coach, BHSAI (ITT) & BHS Accredited Coach.
All our staff are qualified coaches with either the BHS or the ABRS. We do not use unqualified, inexperienced coaches.

We are a small friendly business, where animal welfare alongside your enjoyment and development are of upmost importance to us. All our horses/ponies are well loved and carefully selected by us, to give the best possible experience for riders of all levels.
